Sample welcome message
Welcome to Holly Booth’s Blog! I am a senior at Victor Senior High School who is enrolled in many art classes including Drawing and Painting 2, Ceramics 2 and Functional Arts. After finishing high-school I plan on attending Parson’s School of Design in New York City to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Furniture Design.

I am drawn to anything with bold colors and stimulating patterns. In my spare time I enjoy sewing and designing my own clothing. I am particularly inspired by the 1950’s and enjoy watching old movies to research the clothing; jewelry and furniture of that time period. These inspirations are easily seen in the work that I create. Some of my favorite designers include Charles and Ray Eames; Isamu Noguchi; Coco Chanel and Christian Dior.

My goal with this blog is to make it a space where I may record my growth as a designer. I would also like my blog to be a place where others may read about what inspires me and provide constructive feedback to help me grow through the rest of high school and well into my college years and professional career in the world of design.

  • 2nd post – search the post on my blog titled “Blog Homework: Posting: Famous Interior Designers” to learn more about a famous interior designer. Pick one whose work inspires you. Google search to learn more about that designer. Answer the following questions in a paragraph, in complete sentence form about:
  1. The designer’s name and company they work/worked for
  2. When they worked (what decades/years were they famous?)
  3. Schools or program attended and degrees earned
  4. Interior design associations they belonged to
  5. Any design awards won
  6. Describe the designer’s style in a few words
  7. At least 3 projects/designs they created – provide the title and location for each
  8. What about the designer’s work inspires you. This should be a few sentences in length and use the language of art.
  9. add an image of a space designed by the interior designer. Provide the provenance – Name of the Space, where it is located, when it was created

Sample blog post

Picture: Salon at Viceroy Hotel, Santa Monica, CA, 2010
I am particularly drawn to the work of Kelly Wearstler. She is a currently practicing designer working since the early 1990’s and is well-known for her role as a judge on the Bravo television series “Top Design.” Kelly earned her Bachelor’s of Arts degree from the Massachusetts college of art. She is best known for her luxurious interiors for hotels and resorts that incorporate expensive furniture; fabrics and accessories. Kelly has won awards for her work including being named a 2010 style leader by Town and Country and name as a Top Taste Maker by House Beautiful and House and Garden magazine. She was also awarded prestige as one of the Design 100 by Time magazine. Her famous works include Viceroy hotel in Santa Monica, California and the Avalon and Maison 140 resorts in Beverly Hills, California. I am inspired by Kelly’s eclectic use of objects from different time periods and places around the world to provide an expensive, elite feel to any space she designs. She also utilizes a bold use of patterns, many of which are inspired by the 1950’s which is a decade of design that intrigues me. I would like to use this same feel of employing objects from different places and many different textures to make the spaces I design richer and more opulent.
